Myth about Naga
Naga is also intertwined with the history of Buddha, as seen in various legends where they play crucial roles in protecting and assisting the enlightened one. The story of Phaya Moot-cha-lin, the great Naga who provides shelter to Buddha under the Indian Oaktree, exemplifies the deep connection between Naga and Buddhism.

Power: Phra Nak Prok (also Pang Nak Prok) is name of the Buddha image under the covering by Naga. This image derived when Buddha was in practice of being enlightened. Buddha sat under the big Bodhi tree (Srimahapho) and kept doing meditation. One day, it rained 7 days and 7 nights and Phaya Mujarin (king of great snakes) saw and was afraid that Buddha would get wet, so he covered Buddha with himself like an umbrella. In fact, Phaya Mujarin had faith in Buddha. When it stopped raining, Phaya Mujarin transformed himself into a human and paid respect to Buddha.

Phra Nak Prok has powerful power in protection against harm, dangers and bad things, bringing peacefulness and turning bad destiny to good. In fact, Phra Nak Prok is a Buddha image of people born on Saturday. It is propitious for people on this day to worship Phra Nak Prok in order to enhance their life and fortune. However, worshiping Phra Nak Prok is also good for people in other days.

That is to say, he is also the protector and caretaker of the human world. Residing in the Heavenly Fourth Maharajika ruled by four great kings: Thao Dattarattha, Virunhaka, and Virupakkha and Tao Wet Suwan (Tao Kuware) in various directions. All four directions, especially Tao Wet Suwan (Tao Kuvere) is the great ruler of the family in the north. It is said that the territory where Tao Wet Suwan is responsible for has a more enormous, spacious territory than others’.

Another form of him is a deity who brings good fortune to all human beings, known as Phra Dhanabadee (the Chinese Tao Kuvera or Cai Ching Ye) all along with a lot of fortune as well.

Tao Wet Suwan is a god of treasure or god of wealth. In the book of Thephoom, it says that Tao Wet Suwan has practiced preserverence for thousands of years, receiving blessings from Shiva and Brahma to be a god of wealth and protector of Buddha including those who pracetice dharmas and meditation. Thai people put Tao Wet Suwan image in their houses or near their young children's beds to prevent bad spirits.
