Wat Mahathat is located in the middle of the city. It is the most important temple. It is like the royal temple of Sukhothai. Inside the temple there are many historical sites, including the main pagoda, viharn, mandapa, chapel (church), and as many as 200 pagodas.

Influenced by Khmer art and has stucco patterns influenced by Lankan art. As for the chedi at the four corners, it is a castle-shaped chedi with five peaks. with the influence of Bagan-Hariphunchai-Lanna art. Around the main chedi there are stucco statues of disciples in Anchuli pose walking around the Phra Mahathat.
