The Story of Sang Thong
Sang Thong is a famous Thai tale about the little prince born in the conch shell who eventually became the hero and captured heart of the beautiful princess. The queen gave birth to ‘Phra Sang’. He came out as a conch shell. The king was angry and expelled the queen out of the palace. While journey, the queen and the conch prince were attacked by crews of the envious queen of the king. The queen and the king were taken apart. The conch prince was thrown away in the river. With his merit, he was saved and well brought up by the giant queen ‘Nang Phanthurat’. The prince grew up as the beautiful prince. One day, he went in the cave and found ‘Chao Ngo ’ head mask and immersed his body in the golden well. The prince also found the bones that he really knew his mother was a giant. The prince decided to leave his mother. When wearing Chao Ngo head mask, the prince became a black frizzy-haired man, and moreover could fly and do supernatural powers. One of his supernatural is ‘Mon Jindamanee’ taught by Nang Phanthurat his giant mother. This is the mantra to call animals and treasure. When Nang Phanthurat knew the departure of his son, she cried her heart out and died. The prince reached the city governed by Thao Samon, the king. This king had 7 beautiful princesses. With a proper age of having marriage, the king held the ceremony finding bridegrooms for his daughters. Phra Sang, the prince in the look of Chao Ngo attended the event. Rodjana, one of the princesses chose Chao Ngo as her husband because she saw the hidden beauty of the prince that nobody couldn’t. To defeat her father’s mind, the prince was tested with many tricks of the king. Phra Sang could pass all tricks with his supernatural powers.
