Phra Kring is a famous Buddha amulet in Thailand. Believed to fulfill wishes of prayer, bring wealth, prosperity, progression, safety and peacefulness as well as used to make holy water to cure illness and drive out the inauspicious.
The name “Phra Kring” (Phra = Buddha, Kring = inside metal bead) comes from a metal bead in amulet. The ringing sound is believed to bring good luck.
People believe Phra Kring can cure illness. In the reign of King Rama III, there was the spreading of cholera that killed many Thai people. Somdej Phrawannarat (LP Daeng) abbot of Wat Suthat, Bangkok blessed Phra Kring amulet in the water and gave out water to people. People who drank that water (including LP Daeng) could get over cholera.
The Biography of LP Khumbu:
LP Khambu was a well-known guru monk all over Thailand. He governed Wat Kut Chomphu in Ubon Ratchathani Province. He was born on Monday the 15th February BE2465 (CE1922) in GoodChomPu village, Ubon Ratchathani Province. LP Khambu got ordained as a novice in BE2482 (CE 1939) at Wat Kut Chomphu, Ubonratcha Thani Province. After ordination, LP Khambu went to learn dharma and magic from LP Rod of Wat Thungsrimueang who was the great magical expert in the northeast of Thailand. In BE2486 (CE 1943), LP Khambu got ordained as a monk at Wat Kut Chomphu. After that, LP Khambu went on a pilgrimage (Buddhists call “Tu Dong”) around Thailand and in Laos to do meditation seriously in order to gain strong mindfulness. With his virtues and good behaviors, LP Khambu was admired and respected by a lot of people. And his mercy and strong mindstream make his amulets very holy. LP Khambu calmly passed away on the 11th February CE 2014 by senility.
