The Story of Ai Kai :

People tell that Ai Kai is a boy following Luang Pu Thuad on pilgrimage. When Luang Pu Thuad came to Wat Chedi, Si Chon district, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, he ordered Ai Kai to look after the temple for him. Then, Ai Kai died while he was young and his spirit has lived there since then. Ai Kai spirit always keeps an eye on the temple. Ones who come without permission and burglars will be frightened by Ai Kai spirit.

The power of Ai Kai is widely known in Nakhon Si Thammarat and other Provinces. People told that in World War Two, Ai Kai spirit frightened the foreign soldiers that they ran away without thinking.

Because of strong power of Ai Kai spirit, in 2525 BE (1982 CE) people together built the statue of Ai Kai from Takhian wood (Takhian is a spiritual tree in Thai belief) and invited Ai Kai spirit to obsess in the statue. That made Ai Kai statue uncommon. Ai Kai spirit helps people who pray to him.

Every day, people come to worship and give offerings to Ai Kai . They like to make a wish towards Ai Kai statue. Many of them are fulfilled for example they won the lottery and found the missing things. So, Ai Kai spirit became famous.

When people who have asked Ai Kai for something are successful, one thing they popularly do is lighting firecrackers as thanks for Ai Kai spirit. Now, pieces of firecrackers pile up like a hill!
