Wat Phra Buddhabat official name is Wat Phra Buddhabat Rachavora-mahawihara. The Temple is a first-class Royal monastery temple, constructed in the year 1624 in the reign of King Songtham when Ayutthaya was an old capital. Presently, Wat Phra Buddhabat still standing over site for more than 382 years. At the time, King Songtham visited the Buddha's Footprint and honored it as a sacred place.
A temporary house was built over it until he returned to the capital city and later a permanent square pavilion with a spired roof top, a "Mondop" was replaced to protect the Buddha Footprint. Many other monastery halls were constructed within the compound, some were used as a residential place for monks and novices.
