A chubby Buddha with his hands covering his eyes is well-known as “Phra Pidta”, an icon of wealth in Thai belief. Idea of making Phra Pidta derives from Phra Kawampati or Phra Sangkajai who was an enlightened disciple of Buddha. With image that looked very much like Buddha, Phra Kawampati transformed himself to a chubby monk so that people will not misunderstand him as Buddha and that became signature of Phra Kawampati or Phra Sangkajai. Phra Pidta looks like Phra Sangkajai, but is in a different posture; putting his hands on his eyes that implies an attempt to obtain calmness of mind by stopping seeing. Phra Pidta is praised as god of wealth. Whoever worships Phra Pidta will be successful in wealth and business.
About the Guru Monk:
Luang Por Boonma is a good monk in Prachinburi Province, Eastern Thailand. He is an abbot of Wat Ban Kaeng in Prachinburi where he met many years before and has gradually developed into prosperous temple.
LP Boonma was born in 2473 BE (1930 CE) in Prachinburi. He got ordained as a Buddhist monk when he was 25. After ordination, he has set his heart on dharma (teachings of Buddha) and teaching dharma to people.
LP Boonma has made amulets to make money to develop Wat Ban Kaeng. Many people found miracle about being invincible with amulets by LP Boonma and this made LP Boonma well-known. People in Prachinburi praise LP Boonma as the candlelight in the dark because he is implanting dharma in people’s hearts that people will behave in a good way and make good judgments (intellect).
