Biography of LP Kasem:
LP Kasem Khemago, born on Wednesday, 28th November 1912 (BE2455) in Lampang, was a descendant of Lanna Period's King. After the death of his uncle, the abbot of Wat Bunyeun, he became a novice monk in B.E.2468. He then traveled to Bangkok in B.E.2470 to study the Pali language before returning to Lampang to further his studies at Wat Seelom and Wat Bunyawaht.
In B.E.2475, he excelled in his Pali examination at Wat Setuwan and was ordained as a monk at Wat Bunyeun in B.E.2476, taking the name Khemako Pikkhu. Under the guidance of LP Krubah Gaen, he delved deeper into his dharma and sammadhi practice. LP Kasem eventually became the abbot of Wat Bunyeun and later moved to Sasahn Sahlahwangthan to focus on attaining the highest level of Sammadhi.
Despite his royal lineage, LP Kasem lived a minimalist lifestyle, only possessing his alm bowl, robe, and a piece of human bone for Sammadhi practice. He lived without shelter or footwear, not even using a pillow for sleep. LP Kasem remained devoted to his spiritual journey, often going without food for long periods and bathing only once a year. Despite these hardships, he never complained and willingly gave away anything he received to other monks.
On 15 January 1996 (BE2539), LP Kasem passed away at the age of 84 in Lampang hospital. His unwavering commitment to his spiritual path and ascetic lifestyle left a lasting legacy in the Buddhist community.
