The Biography of LP Muang:
Phrakru Sunthornchariyawat (Luang Pu Muang Nakseno), former abbot of Wat Yang Ngam. Advisor to the Abbot of Pak Tho District Wat Yang Ngam Subdistrict, Pak Tho District, Ratchaburi Province A monk who is an expert in the Mae Klong River Basin. Disciple who inherited the Buddhakom from Luang Pu Jai, Wat Sadet (Disciple of the Buddhakom of Luang Por Thao Yim, Wat Nong Bua, Kanchanaburi Province The owner of the famous Takrud Lokhom recipe) and is a member of Luang Pu Yot of Wat Kaeo Charoen. Luang Pu Muang has been said to be “He is a monk who has sacred speech. Whatever he says, it is always what he says.”
Luang Pho Muang, also known as Phra Khru Sunthorn Jarinyavat, formerly the abbot of Wat Yangngam in Pak Tho district, Ratchaburi Province, is a renowned Dhamma teacher in the Mae Klong Valley region.
Luang Pho Muang, whose birth name was Muang Pumroj, was born on a Wednesday, August 21, 2455 BE, in Ban Mu 5, Pak Tho sub-district, Pak Tho district, Ratchaburi Province. Details about his parents are not mentioned in the available information.
In 2475 BE, at the age of 20, Luang Pho Muang decided to enter the ordination ceremony at Phatthasima Wat Pak Tho on Thursday, June 8, 2474 BE, and was given the title "Nak Sano" by Phra Khru Intakemajar (Pae), of Wat Chong Lom, Ratchaburi, as his preceptor.
During his early years, Luang Pho Muang focused on his studies and became ordained as a monk for only 2-3 years. However, his dedication to learning and practicing the Dhamma led him to a deeper understanding and commitment to the Buddhist teachings. He later became the abbot of Wat Yangngam under the guidance of Luang Pho Seng.
Wat Yangngam, affiliated with the Mahanikaya sect, is located in the Pak Tho sub-district of Ratchaburi Province. The temple was established in 2489 BE during the reign of King Rama IV, with Luang Phu Yaem as the first abbot. The temple houses important relics, including the large Buddha statue known as Luang Pho To, which is known for its significant size of 100 inches wide.
Luang Pho Muang was actively involved in teaching and organizing various Dhamma activities, including ordination programs for monks, annual summer novice ordination ceremonies, Dhamma teachings, and educational initiatives for the community. He also contributed to the renovation and development of the temple facilities for the benefit of all.
Throughout his monastic career, Luang Pho Muang held various positions, including teaching at Wat Pak Tho, serving as the village headman, acting as the abbot of Wat Yangngam, and receiving the title of Upachaya in 2515 BE. He was also appointed as the deputy district headman of Pak Tho district in 2497 BE.
In recognition of his contributions and dedication to the Dhamma, Luang Pho Muang was elevated to the rank of Phra Khru Sunthorn Jarinyavat, with honors conferred by royal decree in 2501 BE. Further accolades followed, with him receiving the title of Phra Khru Sunthorn Jarinyavat in 2521 BE.
Known for his compassion and humility, Luang Pho Muang never spoke ill of others, earning him the respect and admiration of the local community. He passed away peacefully from cancer in the abdominal cavity on August 22, 2552 BE, at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and wisdom for his disciples and the people of Ratchaburi.
