Phra Kring is a famous Buddha amulet in Thailand. Believed to fulfill wishes of prayer, bring wealth, prosperity, progression, safety and peacefulness as well as used to make holy water to cure illness and drive out the inauspicious.
The name “Phra Kring” (Phra = Buddha, Kring = inside metal bead) comes from a metal bead in amulet. The ringing sound is believed to bring good luck.
People believe Phra Kring can cure illness. In the reign of King Rama III, there was the spreading of cholera that killed many Thai people. Somdej Phrawannarat (LP Daeng) abbot of Wat Suthat, Bangkok blessed Phra Kring amulet in the water and gave out water to people. People who drank that water (including LP Daeng) could get over cholera.
Phra Chaiwat is an amulet of the King. Every king of Thailand has his own Phra Chaiwat. Phra Chaiwat means “always conquer/win/succeed”. In the past, Phra Chaiwat is made as a model before making Phra Kring to mean propitious beginning.
People believe to worship Phra Chaiwat will bring propitiousness, good luck, wealth, safety and success in what we hope for in human endeavor. Besides, gurus say Phra Chaiwat can carry off illness, too.
The Biography of LP Phromma:
LP Phromma was born BE2440 (CE1897) at Ubon Ratchathani Province. When LP Phromma was 11 years old was ordained as Buddhist novice with LP Somdej Loon and studied magic and meditation with LP Somdej Loon for 6 years. When LP Phromma was 20 years old was ordained as Buddhist monk at Wat Phra Bath Phon San in Lao. LP Phrom went to study dharma and meditation with LP Mun, LP Sao and LP Srithat and went to Khwai Mountain. LP Phromma studied magic with AJ Yai who is the great hermit that he studied with AJ Yai for 45 years.
LP Phromma passed away on 23 August BE2545 (CE2002) while he was 105 years old.
