Belief about Phra Buddha Chinnarat:
Phra Buddha Chinnarat is one of the most beautiful and venerated Buddha sculptures in posture of submitting Mara in Thailand. Wat Yai or formally called Wat PhraSriRattanaMahathat Woramahavihan, Phitsanulok Province is famous throughout Thailand for this gold cast Phra Buddha Chinnarat, also known as “Victory Buddha” to the Thais.
Phra Buddha Chinnarat has been patronized by Thai Kings. The royal family in Thailand firmly believed in Phra Buddha Chinnarat until the extent that King Rama 5 faithfully made several copies of the Victory Buddha to be placed in other parts of Thailand including Wat Benchamabophit in Bangkok and Wat Saranatthammaram in Rayong. However, the original Phra Buddha Chinnarat at Wat Yai remained as the most popular and why is it so? We may want to dwell into the history making of this sacred Buddha, second in Thailand after the sacred Emerald Buddha of Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
Thai people believe to worship Phra Buddha Chinnaraj can increase the merit of the worshipper especially an authority as well as bring auspicious things, happiness, success and prosperity to the life of the worshipper. Moreover, this Buddha amulet will drive out disturbing spirits, black magic, obstacles and trouble as well as protect the worshiper from dangers and unexpected harmful incidents that may occur.
History of Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat:
Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, colloquially called Wat Yai in Phitsanulok Province, Thailand, where it is located on east bank of Nan River, near Naresuan Bridge and opposite Phitsanulok Provincial Hall.
Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, known among the locals as "Wat Yai", was founded in 1357 by King Lithai of Sukhothai. The temple was built at the same time as Wat Phra Phuttha Chinna Si and Wat Phra Si Satsadaram. During the reign of King Ekathotsarot of Ayutthaya, its Buddha image was gilded and the temple was later developed by King Chulalongkorn and King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Rattanakosin. The temple is located at the foot of Naresuan Bridge on the bank of the Nan River.
The temple is very famous because of its golden Buddha image called Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, which is considered by some Thais to be the most beautiful Buddha image in the country.
Father of Thai history Prince Damrong Rajanubhab recorded this temple that.
"The temple is a big and more important than other temples in Phitsanulok and is believed to be built in the Sukhothai period being renovated from time to time".
The Biography of LP Pian:
LP Pian, an abbot of Wat Kern Kathin, Lopburi Province is a very sacred and respectable guru monk. LP Pian is a senior guru monk in Lopburi, Central Thailand. He was born in 2470 BE (1927 CE) in Lopburi. He got ordained as a Buddhist monk on 4 Aug. 2519 BE (1976 CE) at Wat Gamphaeng in his hometown. After that, he moved to Wat Kern Kathin in the same Province and has been here until present.
At Wat Kern Kathin, LP Pian met LP Parn, an abbot at that time. LP Parn was Cambodian. He was expert at Khmer magic. So, LP Pian had chance to learn magic from LP Parn. Actually, LP Pian’s father had magical knowledge and taught it to LP Pian, his son. So, LP Pian could review magical knowledge he had got. Not only magic but LP Parn also taught LP Pian meditation. Meditation develops mindfulness that is the beginning of wits. LP Parn always emphasized LP Pian to see importance of mindfulness. LP Parn taught LP Pian that doing anything successfully, person need to be determined and have good mindfulness. This is LP Pian’s motto of life.
In other words, LP Pian learnt many useful things from LP Parn including Visha (magic). Practicing meditation intensively, LP Pian had strong mindfulness and progressed in Visha very much. LP Pian then wanted to use his magical competence to help people, so he made it concrete. Those days, LP Pian helped people who were affected by black magic, obsessed by spirits and had serious illness. For illness case, LP Pian cured people by using herbs. His ability was talked by people and soon LP Pian became famous.
LP Pian told the beginning of his amulets that in the past, while he walking to the temple, he saw man stabbed to death. When he got the temple, he had idea of making an amulet for people so that they would be safe. His first amulet was Takrut. How to make Takrut powerful, LP Pian had to dive to inscribe Yant (cabalistic characters) on Takrut (a metal sheet before being rolled). Sure, he did that underwater. This type of consecration is regarded very holy. Not many guru monks do this.
LP Pian is respected by many people because he is a good monk. LP Pian uses all proceeds from amulets on developing and restoring the temple.
**Experience Talks!
This is one of many experience stories of holiness of the amulets by LP Pian.
In 2553 BE (2010 CE), a newspaper published a wonderful story of a man who survived from being shot. A man wearing LP Pian medal was shot by chance in the battle of guys. He was shocked thinking he had to die. When he was out of there, he opened his shirt, he was surprised because he had only a bruise on his breast.
