Meanings & Power:
1) Emerald means “faith, brave and safety”.
The emerald has been a gem of fascination in many cultures for over six thousand years. It is so prized, that carat for carat, a fine emerald may be two to three times as valuable as a diamond. According to Indian mythology, the name emerald was first translated from Sanskrit as “marakata,” meaning “the green of growing things.” The name we know it as now is believed to come from an ancient Persian word, translated to Latin as “smaragdus,” and eventually over time, corrupted to “emerald.”
Owning an emerald increases the owner’s importance in presence and speech during business, gives victory in trials, helps settle litigation, and comforts and soothes eyesight. He also stated “An emerald hung from the neck or worn in a ring will prevent the falling sickness (epilepsy). We, therefore, commend noblemen that it be hanged about the necks of their children that they fall not into this complaint.”
2) Topaz means “charm”.
Topaz, a yellow gemstone is precious stone helping owner make friend with people easily. Believed to bring intellect and brave and to dispel the sorrow. Why Must “Chanthaburi’s Gems”?
Gems Market or Gems Road is a well-known commercial area in Chanthaburi, the so-called “city of gems.” The name Gems Road is referred to the main street of Si Chan Road and side streets of Soi Krachang, Wat Mai subdistrict, Mueang district. The road is considered one of the Province’s most bustling business center because there are more than 120 gold, gems and precious stone shops clustering together. It can be said that this is Thailand’s biggest hub for gems trading.
Gems Market operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00 am – 15.00 pm. The price surveys are generally on Fridays, but the actual trading takes place on Saturdays. Nowadays, we can still witness the gems dealing atmosphere where there are middlemen (known as “Dek Doen Ploy”) who buy gemstones from the mines and resells them to retailers or customers. Gems Market is crowded with Thai and foreign gems dealers.
Speaking of the origin, the first discovery of Chanthaburi gemstone source took place a long time ago near the mountain named Khao Ploy Waen. The exploration in the past did not rely on any fuel-consuming heavy equipment or machinery. It has been said that countless precious stones could be collected at Khao Ploy Waen. The gemstones found there include green sapphire, topaz, star corundum and blue sapphire.
