Myth about Naga
Naga is also intertwined with the history of Buddha, as seen in various legends where they play crucial roles in protecting and assisting the enlightened one. The story of Phaya Moot-cha-lin, the great Naga who provides shelter to Buddha under the Indian Oaktree, exemplifies the deep connection between Naga and Buddhism.

History of LP Hin in BE2495, the monks’ quarters to the north of Phra Ubosot (Main Prayer Hall) had to be relocated to the south along the banks of the canal. LP Naak knew through his personal foresight that LP Hin possessed the ability to perform construction and development work. Hence he appointed LP Hin as the Head of Group 7, group of monks (presently known as Group 6) with the duties of carrying out construction cum development work as well as overseeing all the monks and novices assigned to the group. During those times, the bulk of the construction labor for the temple projects came from the monks and novices residing within the temple. LP Hin himself had to undertake the daunting task of acting as the Chief Artisan in the construction. This entail taking care of all the minor planning details as well as taking charge of the construction labor force. Nevertheless within a period of five months LP completed the relocation of the monks’ quarters with the erection of four buildings expending a total of only 5,000 Baht. These four monks’ quarters were constructed using only old wood as building materials. LP not only contributed to the construction effort within Wat RaKang but LP was also very enthusiastic in helping other monasteries. It did not matter was the nature of the construction work as long as they came and asked for his assistance, LP had never refused anyone the necessary help. There were occasions when LP Hin could not contribute financially as he had no funds. LP therefore donated the Buddha Images the LP personally made to raise funds for those asking for help.

The Biography of LP Hin
LP Hin was born on 9th November 1899 in Cambodia. When he was fifteen years old, he entered Wat Thanakham in Cambodia. He learned Buddhist Monastic rules and scriptures for three years before leaving the monastery to help his parents in their business.

In 1920 LP Hin was ordained at the age of 21 at Wat Thanakham again. During LP’s first year of monkshood LP spent the first Phansa (Buddhist Lent by 3 month) attempting very diligently to study Buddhist meditation under the tutelage of the various teachers residing within the same temple. After Buddhist Lent, LP traveled to study Cambodian Buddhist Spiritual Studies under the guidance of various masters.

The most fundamental lesson LP had received in such studies was the use of the Yant Trinisinghe. This is a numeric Yant which is extremely popular even to this present day due to its efficacy and versatility under all circumstances.

LP Hin impressed his teaches with his ability in learning as well as applying the Yant so much so that they taught and transmitted all their knowledge to him unreservedly. Apart from studying the Cambodian Buddhist Spiritual Studies, LP also went in search of knowledge in the field of ancient herbal medicinal cures. Even today there are many of his disciples who are willing to testify to the fact that they are alive because of the timely intervention of LP Hin’s herbal medicinal expertise.

As was mentioned previously, LP took a keen interest in the practice of meditation.
As a consequence, during his second and third Phansa, LP concentrated on the practice of meditation under the guidance of teachers in Wat Thanakhan as well as those from other monasteries located in the city of Boribun as well as Phra Tadong.
LP completed his meditation training upon the ending of the Phansa period. Following this in the 12th Lunar Month of 1922, LP lea a group totaling 37 monks on an ascetic pilgrimage by foot all the way from Cambodia into Thailand. The Journey ended near the coming Phansa Whereupon LP Hin returned to observe the Buddhist Lent Retreat at Wat Thanakhan as usual.

During that Pansa, LP further sharpened his skills at meditation to the extent that LP began receiving accolades from many in the monastery as one who was very proficient in meditation.

With the passing of that Phansa, LP journeyed into the Chiang Mai Province of Thailand and then onwards to Myanmar before returning to Thailand and staying at Wat Siridong in Chiang Mai. LP subsequently remained in that temple until the completion of all these building projects. This effort took a total of eleven years.

In 1935, when LP heard about the famed Chao Phrakhun Somdej Phra Putajarn To, it inspired in him a tremendous faith and devotion. This spurred him to journey to Wat Rakang. LP paid homage to LP Naak who was abbot of the temple. They got on very well right from the start. Their profound discussions of the Buddhist Scriptures further enhanced their relationship so much that LP Naak persuaded LP Hin to stay for the Phansa in the monks’ quarters located in the northwestern part of the temple complex (presently a school called Khositasamosorn). During that period, Wat Rakang began to hang various meditation classes ranging from Samathakammatthan to Vipassana. LP Naak appointed LP Hin as the monk overseeing these meditation classes. LP Hin continued to carry out these duties till near his passed away in 1978.
