History of Wat Mai Amataros, Bangkok:
Wat Mai Amataros is an ancient temple. This temple is located on Bang Khun Prom Road, Bangkok. Wat Mai Amataros was built in the end of Thonburi Era. People first called this temple Wat WaRaMaTaRam and it was changed to Wat Mai Amataros later.
Refer to history of Phra Somdej Bang Khun Prom (Wat Mai Amatrot), at the end of the reign of King Rama IV, Sa-Mian Tra Duang who was very rich in Bang Khun Prom area paid a large amount of money for restoring the temple. Then LP Toh had an idea to build a big pagoda in this temple in order to keep 84,000 amulets to maintain Buddhism. This big pagoda was built in 1868 and complete in 1870.
BangKhun Prom Pagoda was restored again in year 1957 after World War II. Many amulets were found underground. Most of the amulets were broken. In 1988, LP Wat who was an abbot of Wat Mai Amatrot created Phra Somdej amulet from the fragments of amulets.
