Richard began training for Kickboxing in 2007, working with Steve Kerridge at Aveley Kickboxing Club in London which has produced many champions over the years, from regional through to world. A quick learner, Richard had his first fight within four months and after a year defeated Mark Cullinane (ECKA Gym, Coventry), a former European champion, for the ISKA English lightweight championship. Having won the title in March 2008, Richard defended it successfully in October of the same year.
In a short time fighting Richard has had 11 fights, with 8 wins, 2 defeats (one of them controversial) and 1 draw. Apart from the English title fight Richard’s most memorable victory was over Vinny Brown who was the featherweight champion. The controversial defeat (on a split decision) was against Davis Kamara, a former professional boxer, for the ISKA British title. Richard is rated Number 1 in Britain and Europe by the ISKA at featherweight and his immediate target is the British title which he is fighting for in March 2010 – after that he hopes to move on to European and World crowns.
Hero is proud of Richard’s achievements and hopes that he will soon gain the British and European titles his ranking deserves. One of many champions who choose Hero kit, he admires the style of the trousers and shorts, and like many other fighters, finds that Hero Sporto is the best for making fight gear exactly to his own (pretty spectacular) designs without any fuss.
