Possibly the most exciting fighter to come on the British Muay Thai scene in recent years, Darren Till has made remarkable progress in a mere 18 months. From his debut in Scotland in Spring 2008 to the present (October 2009), he has had 10 professional fights (8 victories), picked up two titles and lost a controversial points decision in Canada for the World Amateur title. One of the classiest and most stylish fighters in the North of England, Darren suffered a setback earlier this year when he lost two successive fights, in each case leading after three rounds and fading in the last two against tough opponents, including Mason Harris, trained by Billionmore Hall of Famer Liam Robinson.
Darren’s response to this showed why he is likely to be a great champion in the years to come. He trained harder and came back tougher. A brilliant points win against Mark Skeer at Heywood was followed by victories for the English and British titles, the last one a terrific knock-out victory over Connor McEwan at Liverpool. Darren, having always been regarded as an outstanding kicker, produced a stunning display of punching to finish it in the 3rd round.
Offered a chance at the World Amateur Title in British Columbia, Darren lost a close decision, partly because of his unfamiliarity with amateur scoring, partly, it seems, because of eccentric judging. This was his first fight under Hero/Billionmore sponsorship and he followed it up with a second just six days later when he overcame jet-lag and a dangerous opponent with a points win over Marc Evans.
