The Biography of LP Klai:
Luang Por Khlai (or Phothan Khlai especially in the South) was a holy monk in Thai history. He was a past abbot of Wat Suan Khan in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and highly respected by people in the South.
People call him a monk who has holy words or Vaja Sit because whatever he said usually came true. People believed whoever got blessing from LP Klai would become prosperous, on the other hand, whoever was cursed by him would encounter cataclysm.
LP Khai was born in 2417 BE (1874 CE). He became a monk when he was 20. LP Klai was kind to everyone. At that time, many people visited LP Klai. They wished to get holy amulets especially Chan Mak or betel nut chewed by LP Klai. People believe amulets from LP Klai really help and protect owners.
LP Klai peacefully passed away on 5 December 2513 BE (1970 CE) at age 96. Temple held ceremony to mourn him for 100 days and then situated his body in the glass coffin for people to pay respect.
LP Klai was an important person who led temple construction and restoration. He built several temples in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province such as Wat Maprang Ngam and Wat Phra That Noi (Temple of LP Klai).
Wonderful Story of LP Klai:
It has a mysterious history that while moving Phra Uchen (elephant angel of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province) Statue from the old place to the new place, Statue accidentally fell in the river that nobody could take it up. Time passed and people were scared because they often heard a strange sound of elephant from the river.
This news was heard by Luang Pho Khlai (Southern: Pho Than Khlai) of Wat Suan Khan. LP Klai was highly respected in Nakhon Si Thammarat and praised as “a monk with holy utterance”. He together with followers set off to take up Phra Uchen Statue from the river.
LP Klai held a ceremony on the boat. While ceremony, it was raining, but LP Klai kept spelling in the rain and his candles were wonderfully burning up. When a police officer (one of followers) grabbed Statue, the candles immediately extinguished.
LP Klai asked that policeman “Isn’t Phra Uchen Statue heavy?” Policeman said “yes ” that he could carry Statue easily. When going back Wat Suan Khan, it was still raining and LP Klai said “the sky left more space” and the rainwater didn’t appear on a boat at all— emphasizing the holy utterance of LP Klai. Now, the real Phra Uchen is situated at Wat Suan Khan regarded as merit animal of LP Klai, too.
