Have a long tradition as lucky charms and protected from fierce animals like snake or scorpion, are worn by boys and men on a waist-string under the clothes, off-center from the real penis, in the hope that they will attract and absorb any magical injury directed toward the generative organs. It is not uncommon for a man to wear several Palad Khik at one time. One may use to increase gambling luck. Another may use to attract women and a third for invulnerability from bullets and knives. Women in Thailand do not generally wear Palad Khiks, but they keep Palad Khik in purse. They believe that Palad Khik can help the owner to secure good fortune in business.
The History of “Ta Khai”
Ta Khai is name of old Guman Thong spirit. It is a famous sculpture presented by Wat Chedi in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, the South of Thailand.
Amazingly, Wat Chedi releases Guman Thong Ai Kai amulets for worship once per ten years! It is so long because the consecration is very holy and has to invite Guman Ta Khai spirit to come.
People tell that Ta Khai is a boy following LP Thuad on pilgrimage. When LP Thuad came to Wat Chedi, Si Chon district, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, he ordered Ta Khai to look after the temple for him. After that, Ta Khai died while he was only a boy and Ta Khai spirit has lived there since then. Ta Khai spirit always keeps an eye on the temple. Whoever comes without permission or breaks into to steal things will be frightened by Ta Khai spirit.
**The power of Ta Khai is widely known in Nakhon Si Thammarat and other Provinces. People told that in World War II, Ta Khai spirit frightened the foreign soldiers that they ran away without thinking.
Because of strong power of Ta Khai spirit, in 2525 BE (1982 CE) people together built the statue of Ta Khai from Ta Kian wood (Ta Kian is a mystical tree in Thai belief) and invited real Ta Khai spirit to obsess in the statue. Wonderfully, Ta Khai statue is not common because Ta Khai spirit helps what people pray for him. Every day, people come to worship and give offerings for Ta Khai. They like to make a wish towards Ta Khai statue. Many of them are fulfilled for example they win the lottery and find the missing things. That makes Ta Khai spirit very famous.
**One popular thing that people who already promise Ta Khai spirit will do when they get what they want is lighting firecrackers. Yes, they light firecrackers to fulfill their vows. Now, pieces of firecrackers pile up like a hill!
