Name: Medium Size Phra Sivali, Soil Substance with Red Lacquer, Yuk Dton (Early Era) around 2500 BE
From: LP Guay, Wat Kositaram, Chainat Province
Origin: Thailand
Year: Yuk Dton (Early Era) around 2500 BE (1957 CE)
Materials: Soil, red lacquer
The central image of Phra Sivali made from old red lacquered clay, dating back to the early era of Luang Phor Kwai around 2500 BE.
This is the Phra Sivali in the middle-sized format by Luang Phor Kwai of Wat Khositaram, made from a mixture of herbal powder and consecrated sand from the early period (a rare and highly sought-after version). The back is flat, and it is considered scarce. It is believed to bring luck, good business, and wealth.
In Buddhist tradition, it is said that two deities are especially associated with prosperity: Phra Sivali and Phra Sangkhajai. It is believed that in their past lives, both were known for their extreme generosity. This characteristic aligns with Luang Phor Kwai, who was known for his love of teaching the charity sections of the Vessantara Jataka (the story of Prince Vessantara). In fact, even the royal scriptures of Phra Malai mention that Phra Malai ascended to heaven to meet Phra Sakyamuni, who instructed him to tell humans that anyone who wished to be born in the time of Metteya Buddha should make donations with a generous heart, just as Phra Vessantara did.
Later, after Luang Phor Kwai successfully practiced Vipassana meditation, he reportedly made contact with Phra Sivali and Phra Sangkhajai. Luang Phor even created a sketch of Phra Sivali's sacred gem, which had never been seen before, and he made flags with the image of Phra Sivali to be placed at altars. He wrote that he personally recited the prayers every day without fail. In his notes, he mentioned that those who chant regularly would improve their fortune, have smoother business dealings, and ultimately become wealthy.
Luang Phor Kwai later created large-sized Phra Sivali amulets, but the one in the picture is a smaller version and is very popular (especially the versions without the robe, which are rare, and available in both black and red types).
Carrying the powder of Phra Sivali or Phra Sangkhajai with you is similar to being accompanied by a person of great virtue and influence. It is said that, much like being with a respected elder, wherever you go, doors open for you, and people will treat you with greater respect. There is even an ancient story from the time of the Buddha about two monks from a lower caste who, when begging for alms, were ignored and went hungry. A senior monk advised them to carry a relic or bone of Phra Sivali, and when they did, their alms rounds became successful, and they no longer went hungry. This was due to the power of Phra Sivali's blessings.
Given these virtues of Phra Sivali and the reports of Luang Phor Kwai's ability to contact Phra Sivali, it's highly recommended to carry such an amulet or recite the prayer dedicated to Phra Sivali for good fortune and prosperity.
