Kala Ta Diaw is what Thai people call an uncommon coconut shell with only one hollow on its top part unlike others that have 3 hollows. Ancient Thai people believed that a coconut shell with one hollow has hidden power in itself. They cut the coconut shell and punched a hole on a piece of it. They inserted rope into the hole and wore as a talisman. They believed this talisman could save them from dangers and fulfill what they pray for. In Sukothai Era, some people who knew magic began to consecrate a piece of mentioned coconut shell. They built up sacredness for the coconut shell. So, name “Kala Ta Diaw” became well-known. In Ayutthaya Era, people believed this kind of amulet could attract good luck and prevent poverty that they cut Kala Ta Diaw into 2 halves and used to scoop rice grains to mean will have abundance of consumption.
The Story of Phra Rahoo:
Phra Rahu is the famous auspicious amulet of Wat Sisa Thong . Phra Rahu is a mythological monster who is supposed to cause eclipses by taking the moon or the sun in his mouth. He is a kind of giant in Thai myth. The legend is that Pra-Rahu was an immortal giant because he drank some holy nectar. The temple created Phra Rahu amulet not only – taking the moon in his mouth – but also taking the sun in his mouth. The legend of creation of Phra Rahu is that Phra Rahu was created by the two hermits. One of them was penance in the cave on Nantakhate Mountain. Both of them created magical drawing and magic words in order to sanctify Phra Rahu amulet. One hermit created magical drawing and magic words of Suriyabuppa (eclipse of the sun period) to sanctify Phra Rahu which taking the sun in his mouth. The other hermit created magical drawing and magic words of Chandrabuppa (eclipse of the moon in his mouth. The two hermits made those things because they had foresight to know that humans will face with danger and grieves in the future. The auspicious amulet, Phra Rahoo, could help people free from ones.To sanctify Phra Rahu amulet, it must be made 8 periods for being holy and effective.
Wat Sisa Thong located at Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand. It occurs from cooperation from many villagers. When it was under construction, they found Phra Thong in underground. Thus, people called “Wat HuaThong” In the reign of LP Noi Nawarat, this temple was very progress. Next, it was changed the name to be “Wat Sisa Thong ”. Nowadays, most of people worship Phra Rahu at this temple.
LP Noi of wat Sisa Thong , Nakhon Pathom Province was born on 14 February 1892 and passed away on 10 Desember 1945 at the age of 53 year old. He studied magic from his father when he was young. He was ordained as a monk at the age of 21 at Wat GlarngKooWieng. He has been an expert of concentration of mindfulness in Buddhism way.LP Noy is a Laos’s monk. He is has been studied the art of making efficacious Phra RaHu statues from Laos. He was the first monk who created style of Phra RaHu in Thailand and popular for his knowledge in both Holy Dharma and Visha (magic).
