Phra Buddha Chinnarat is one of the most beautiful and venerated Buddha sculptures in posture of submitting Mara in Thailand. Wat Yai or formally called Wat PhraSriRattanaMahathat Woramahavihan, Phitsanulok Province is famous throughout Thailand for this gold cast Phra Buddha Chinnarat, also known as “Victory Buddha” to the Thais.

Phra Buddha Chinnarat has been patronized by Thai Kings. The royal family in Thailand firmly believed in Phra Buddha Chinnarat until the extent that King Rama 5 faithfully made several copies of the Victory Buddha to be placed in other parts of Thailand including Wat Benchamabophit in Bangkok and Wat Saranatthammaram in Rayong. However, the original Phra Buddha Chinnarat at Wat Yai remained as the most popular and why is it so? The Biography of LP Somwang:

Luang Por Somwang Piyathammo, a famous monk of Samnak Suan Pa Samun Phrai who is in honor of the Eastern people.

He is a student of Sue Tham Luang Por Kongsuwanno, Wang Sapparot Temple, Bo Sub-district, Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province.

Formerly known as Somwang Wongkamsen, born on August 22, 1946, originally from Chanthaburi Province.

Young age after the end of grade 4 left school to help the parents Because his father was a subdistrict sub-district chief in Pluak Daeng District before the family moved to Rayong.

During his teenage years, aged 16-17 years, he went to pay homage to Luang Pu Tim Issarico, a monk of Wat Lahan Rai, Rayong Province, he gave a spell to protect himself.
