Myth about Naga
Naga is also intertwined with the history of Buddha, as seen in various legends where they play crucial roles in protecting and assisting the enlightened one. The story of Phaya Moot-cha-lin, the great Naga who provides shelter to Buddha under the Indian Oaktree, exemplifies the deep connection between Naga and Buddhism.

Belief about Phra Buddha Chinnarat:

Phra Buddha Chinnarat is one of the most beautiful and venerated Buddha sculptures in posture of submitting Mara in Thailand. Wat Yai or formally called Wat PhraSriRattanaMahathat Woramahavihan, Phitsanulok Province is famous throughout Thailand for this gold cast Phra Buddha Chinnarat, also known as “Victory Buddha” to the Thais.

Phra Buddha Chinnarat has been patronized by Thai Kings. The royal family in Thailand firmly believed in Phra Buddha Chinnarat until the extent that King Rama 5 faithfully made several copies of the Victory Buddha to be placed in other parts of Thailand including Wat Benchamabophit in Bangkok and Wat Saranatthammaram in Rayong. However, the original Phra Buddha Chinnarat at Wat Yai remained as the most popular and why is it so? We may want to dwell into the history making of this sacred Buddha, second in Thailand after the sacred Emerald Buddha of Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.

Thai people believe to worship Phra Buddha Chinnaraj can increase the merit of the worshipper especially an authority as well as bring auspicious things, happiness, success and prosperity to the life of the worshipper. Moreover, this Buddha amulet will drive out disturbing spirits, black magic, obstacles and trouble as well as protect the worshiper from dangers and unexpected harmful incidents that may occur.

About King Naresuan:

Naresuan was the King of the Ayutthaya Kingdom from 1590 and overlord of Lan Na from 1602 until his death in 1605. Naresuan is one of Thailand's most revered monarchs as he is known for his campaigns to free Ayutthaya from the vassalage of the Taungoo Empire. During his reign, numerous wars were fought against Taungoo Burma.

Prince Naret was born in Phitsanulok in 1555. He was the son of King Mahathammarachathirat of Phitsanulok and his queen consort, Wisutkasat. His mother was a daughter of Maha Chakkraphat and queen consort Suriyothai. His father was a Sukhothai noble who had defeated Worawongsathirat in 1548 and put Maha Chakkraphat on the throne. Prince Naret, also known as the "Black Prince" (Thai “Phra Ong Dam”), had a younger brother Ekathotsarot, known as the "White Prince" (Thai “Phra Ong Khow”), and an elder sister, Suphankanlaya.

In the second siege of Ayutthaya (1563–64), King Bayinnaung of the Taungoo Dynasty of Bago, Burma (Bago: formerly known in Burmese as Hanthawaddy) led massive armies, invading the country and laying siege to Phitsanulok. Maha Thammarachathirat came to believe that the city would not be able to withstand a long siege due to a scarcity of food and a smallpox outbreak, so he surrendered the city. King Bayinnaung took Phitsanulok and Ayutthaya, and made Siam a Burmese tributary state. He required Maha Thammarachathirat to send his son—the Black Prince—to Bago as a hostage to ensure the king's fidelity.

In 1569, Bayinnaung put down the Siamese rebellion that had begun a year earlier, and installed Maha Thammarachathirat as a vassal king of Ayutthaya. After six years in Pegu, 1570, Prince Naret and his brother the White Prince returned to Ayutthaya. While in Burma, "he followed the best of Burmese military training," studying alongside the "elite of Burmese youth, sons of princes and nobles." "Besides being gifted in military prowess, Naresuan who was highly intelligent, gained a great deal of general knowledge of the times."

Thai people believe amulet with King Naresuan image has strong power that helps a believer from hazards, accidents and inauspicious things.

History of Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat:

Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, colloquially called Wat Yai in Phitsanulok Province, Thailand, where it is located on east bank of Nan River, near Naresuan Bridge and opposite Phitsanulok Provincial Hall.

Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, known among the locals as "Wat Yai", was founded in 1357 by King Lithai of Sukhothai. The temple was built at the same time as Wat Phra Phuttha Chinna Si and Wat Phra Si Satsadaram. During the reign of King Ekathotsarot of Ayutthaya, its Buddha image was gilded and the temple was later developed by King Chulalongkorn and King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Rattanakosin. The temple is located at the foot of Naresuan Bridge on the bank of the Nan River.
The temple is very famous because of its golden Buddha image called Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, which is considered by some Thais to be the most beautiful Buddha image in the country.
Father of Thai history Prince Damrong Rajanubhab recorded this temple that.
"The temple is a big and more important than other temples in Phitsanulok and is believed to be built in the Sukhothai period being renovated from time to time".
