Power: A chubby Buddha with his hands covering his eyes is well-known as “Phra Pidta”, an icon of wealth in Thai belief. Idea of making Phra Pidta derives from “Phra Kawampati” or “Phra Sangkajai” who was an enlightened disciple of Buddha. With image that looked very much like Buddha, Phra Kawampati transformed himself to a chubby monk so that people will not misunderstand him as Buddha and that became signature of Phra Kawampati or Phra Sangkajai. Phra Pidta looks like Phra Sangkajai, but is in a different posture; putting his hands on his eyes that implies an attempt to obtain calmness of mind by stopping seeing. Phra Pidta is praised as god of wealth. Whoever worships Phra Pidta will be successful in wealth and business.
The Biography of LP Plian:
Phra Ajarn Plian Panyapatheepo of Wat Aranwiwek, Chiang Mai Province was born on 16 November BE2476 (CE1933) in Sakon Nakhon Province. Age 18, LP Plian got interested in medicine and practiced giving an injection to patients with district doctor who is his relative. Although getting interested in medicine, LP Plian decided to be ordained in monkhood at age 25 on 31 March BE2502 (CE1959) at Wat That Mee Chai, Sakon Nakhon Province. After ordination, LP Plian began pilgrimage to many Provinces for finding out dharma and inner peace. LP Plian met many reverend monks who are well-known in E-San (Northeast), South and North. The monks whom LP Plian spent most time in studying dharma and meditation with are “LP Phrom Jirapunyo”, “LP Thet Thesarangsi”, “LP Tue Arjalathammo” and “LP Waen Sujinno”.
And other monks such as Phra Ajarn Juan Kulachettho, LP Khow Analayo, LP Kamdee Paphaso, LP Chob Thansamo, KB Intha Jakraksa Inthajakko, LP Sam Akinjano, Phra Ajarn Wan Uttamo, LP Waen Thanapalo, LP Phang Jittakutto, etc.
Nowadays, LP Plian resides at Wat Aranwiwek (Ban Pong) in Chiang Mai Province.
