About Temple:
WatKhun Jun (official name: WatWaraMatayaPhanThaSaRaram) is a well-known temple in Thonburi district, Bangkok. This temple was built in 2370 BE (1827 CE) by Phraya MahaAmmat (Pom), a royal officer of King Rama 1, 2 and 3. In 2369 BE (1826 CE), Phraya MahaAmmat went on the mission to stop rebelling troops of JowAnuwong of Wiang Chan (Laos) and Phraya MahaAmmat was successful. When he came back from the war, he wanted to make merit and decided to build WatKhun Jun in 1827 CE Later, WatKhun Jun got too old and his daughter named ThowPhanthasan was the head of renovation.
WatKhun Jun has many interesting things such as Luang Por Toh (holy Buddha image which was not damaged in World War 2), graceful leaning Buddha image (posture unlike the reclining Buddha, Pang Saiyat of Wat Pho, Bangkok), beautiful architectures and PhraRahoo.
Especially, PhraRahuof WatKhun Jun is famous. Every year, WatKhun Jun holds the ceremony to worship PhraRahuand many people will come to this event. On normal days, people usually come to pay respect to Luang Por Toh and PhraRahufor good luck.
