About Temple:
Wat Rai Khing is located along Nakhon Chaisri river in Rai Khing sub-district, Samphan district, Nakhon Pathom Province. This temple is famous for holy Buddha statue called Luang Por Wat Rai Khing. This temple was built by Somdet Phraphuttthajarn Phook in 2334 BE (1791 C.E).
Rai Khing means ginger garden. In the past, the Chinese who lived in this area grew ginger plants. There were many ginger plants and people called this area Rai Khing. Later, when the temple was finished, people named temple Wat Rai Khing.
For Luang Por Wat Rai Khing, the Buddha image in ancient Northern Thai style built in Chiang Saen era, legend says this Buddha image floated along the river and stopped at Wat Sala Poon, Ayutthaya Province. After Somdet Phraphutthajarn Phook had built Wat Rai Khing, he brought that Buddha image from Wat Sala Poon (where he was an abbot) here. When temple became well-known, people named Buddha image after the name of the temple as Luang Por Wat Rai Khing.
Every year, in May and Chinese New Year festival (trood-jin), Wat Rai Khing holds annual temple fair where people come to paste Luang Por Wat Rai Khing image with a gold leaf and enjoy eating and games.
At present, Wat Rai Khing is prosperous. With holiness of Luang Por Wat Rai Khing, many people come to pay respect and pray to Buddha for wish. Also, people come here to make merit by feeding fish called Pla Sawai in No Fishing Zone of the temple. Visitors can enjoy food in the floating market here as well.
