Myth about Naga
Naga is also intertwined with the history of Buddha, as seen in various legends where they play crucial roles in protecting and assisting the enlightened one. The story of Phaya Moot-cha-lin, the great Naga who provides shelter to Buddha under the Indian Oaktree, exemplifies the deep connection between Naga and Buddhism.

Black and White Magic in Thailand

PBUOZ84

"Magic" is the word from the Brahmanism of India. Beliefs about magic has been with Thai culture more than thousand years ago. It can be seen from Thai ancient ceremonies that used several types of the spell magic such as :

-     “Gohn Pom Fai” another called fire-hair shaving. This is an important Buddhist ceremony for the newborn child after they were born one month and one day. It is a first time for haircut of Thai baby.

-    “Buat Phra” another called ordain. It is an ordination as a monk. The ordination of a man, who then enters a temple for an undefined period.

-     “Sak Yan” another called tattoo. It is a tattoo magic letters painting onto body. It is also a cloth or weapon of Thai soldier in the past before go to the war.

      -    "Keun Ban Mai” means a ceremony of moving into a new house of
Thais. In Thailand, when a new house was built, the Buddhist ceremony
called "Keun Ban Mai” is held. The aim of this ceremony is blessing
the new house and its inhabitants.

It’s important for person who use efficiently magic . He must practise high meditation. This meditation will help calmly mind and powerful. You can feel the power spell when you pray the magic spell in intentionally and has a peace of mind. Therefore, black and white magic are linkage to a human mind.  If we use the magic or make an amulet for helping people to do good things, it is a white magic. If we use the magic for persecuting other people, it is a black magic.  Some people believe that Guman Thong and Hoon payon is black magic like Voodoo but it not true. Actually, Monks or Gurus make the Guman Thong and Hoon payon to protect the owner from bad things and induce good luck. Hoon Payon and Guman Thong’s owner need to follow instructions strictly to the way of Buddhism (don’t kill any it is to confirm that  life or injure other people, don’t steal, don’t lie and don’t drink etc). Then, Guman Thong and Hoon Payon are not a black magic if we use them to do good thing and help other person.

Black Magic

Using Black magic is Prohibit that not accept in Thai culture because it will bring bad karma to user and ruin life. Thai people called the black magic is Day-Rut-Charn Wit-Chaa. It is not good purpose and has a malicious intention for persecution or control the mind other people such as:

-    Spell the magic to put awfully the nail in the stomach of dislike person.

-    Use some amulet to controll other person.

-        Spell the magic to curse other person to be a trouble.

These are the methods of bad shaman to injure the other person. The Buddhist believes that if anybody use the black magic, they will receive very bad luck in their life. The meaning of the black magic in a sense of the Buddhism is the thing that adhere the people in desires, greed and passion. It is the cause that people can’t free from any desires. The purpose of the Buddhism is free from suffering. The observation of the person that injure by black magic is dark and not dignity on the face, quiet and drowsily.

White Magic

 PBUOZ42

The white magic is good purpose and good way to use the magic for help people. Guru monks or Guru Master study white magic for help people from the danger, bad things and misfortunes. Also, the white magic can bring rich, wealth, love, happiness and secure good fortune to the owner. The Lord Buddha statue or Amulets may come in cast bronze, carved wood, stone or tiger tooth, or most commonly as Phra Phim, clay votive tablets in rectangular, pointed or bell shape. Almost all Guru monks molded amulet from holy materials and chanted amulets to give lucks and attract strong wealth to whom wear amulets. Also, katha or magic spells of Buddhism are white magic. It can help the owner if he/she prays the katha regularly to induce good luck and fortune.

This Method of liquid candle or was called The Crown of Buddha of Wat Thum Fad. This is a mysterious and significant method which already help a lot of people such as support their fortune to have better life, reduce the problem in life. This method will burn the candle into the water while the monk will concentrate his meditation power and secret of Montra(magic spell) into the candle liquid. After that he will use his hand to lift it up from the water as a line of candle to cover on the head of people. If you have a good fortune, the candle line will be long line. If you have a bad fortune, the candle line will be brorken which the monk will know and pray for that people to support your fortune and repeat the method to lift up the liquid candle again. Then, all candle will be pressed like Phra Pitta as follows.

        PGOOZ151                                               PGOOZ231

LP Yam has been made and bless Guman Thong for help people from danger and bad things. Anyway, the important rules of Guman’s owners are observing "SEEN HAA" (five commandments of  Buddhism). If owner uses the Guman Thong to injure the other person, the power of Guman Thong will be diminish and spirit will disappear.

             PAMTK02                                            PBUPM106                                       PGOOZ123

Most of Guru Monks use white magic for blessing their amulet such as Takru, Pha Yahn(Cloth with Magic), Guman Thong, Hoon Payon, “Nop Pa Rath Nop Pa Koon” Coin etc. Therefore, the power of  the amulets will be lose if you use them in negative and harmful way.

Therefore, the difference between white and black magic are like thin line. It depends on an objective to make and use.  Then, it is your sense to use them in the good way.
