Myth about Naga
Naga is also intertwined with the history of Buddha, as seen in various legends where they play crucial roles in protecting and assisting the enlightened one. The story of Phaya Moot-cha-lin, the great Naga who provides shelter to Buddha under the Indian Oaktree, exemplifies the deep connection between Naga and Buddhism.

Three Uncommon Guru Monks in Thai History

Three Uncommon Guru Monks in Thai History

By Little Writer :D

Good day readers! Today I have interesting information to present about there uncommon guru monks in Thailand’s history. So, let’s read.

1.    LP Rung, Wat Bang Waen, Chumphon Province

LP Rung was a past guru monk in Chumphon Province, the South of Thailand. LP Rung was different from other guru monks because he had got a beard. This goes against monk rule that a monk must shave his beard. But LP Rung didn’t break the rule because he couldn’t shave his beard. His hair could be cut except beard. His beard was very hard like iron, so it couldn’t be cut by any razor blade. This became wonder of him that people called him “Luangpoh Krow Lek” or a monk with an iron beard. Nobody knows when LP Rung’s beard became hard. Some people think it might come after LP Rung had got ordained as a monk and practiced dharma. One cause might be his magical power.
This became a big talk. A monk party of Chumphon Province came to find out the truth. They tried to shave LP Rung’s beard with very sharp razor blades but they couldn’t.  So, this amazing became a signature of LP Rung.

Naturally, LP Rung was silent. He spent most time on meditation, so he didn’t have conversation with people. When he was alive, there were many wild chickens. They went to eat pieces of food left by monks every day. After LP Rung passed away, chickens didn’t come as usual. That is to say, LP Rung was merciful, so animals wanted to get closer to him.

In LP Rung’s days, he lived in the shelter made of grass in the woods. One day, there was fire but the fire didn’t burn LP Rung’s shelter.

People told that when LP Rung was blessing Takrut (made of a metal sheet), some Takrut melted. People said LP Rung’s power was so strong that it melted metal. Takrut that melted was not powerful enough. So, Takrut blessed by LP Rung has effect on protection and being invulnerable. Some people found LP Rung image amulet and his Takrut in the burning area but where amulets were situated was not be burnt.

2.    LP Moon, Wat East Khao Daeng, Phatthalung Province

LP Moon or Phor Than Moon was born in 2439 B.E. (1896 C.E.), Phatthalung Province. He got ordained as a Buddhist novice at Wat Kwuan Guad in Phatthalung. At age 20, he got ordained as a monk at Wat Prang Mu, the same province. After ordination, he was named “Yasaro” and permanently stayed at Wat East Khao Daeng.

LP Moon was very interested in meditation. So, he decided to stay at Wat East Khao Daeng because the temple was quiet and embraced by nature.  LP Moon was also interested in magic. So, he went to learn magic from LP Thong Thao at Wat Kow Oor. At that time, LP Thong Thao was an abbot of Wat Kow Oor. LP Thong Thao was a famous guru monk. Learning magic from LP Thong Thao made LP Moon meet LP Nam (a sacred guru monk today) who was a few years older than him.

LP Moon became a well-known guru monk. With his holiness, he was often invited to participate in important blessing ceremonies. He began joining in blessing since Indo-China War and World War II.

LP Moon had holy words. Once, a group of drunkards made noise in the annual temple fair of Wat East Khao Daeng. They annoyed attendants very much. LP Moon saw that, so he told the drunkards not to go anywhere. That night, the drunkards couldn’t go out of there. In the morning, they got over drunkenness. LP Moon told them to go home and they could get out of there.

LP Moon was highly respected by people. When LP Moon was alive, people popularly pasted LP Moon with gold leaves as worship. They did that because when they prayed to LP Moon for something, they would be fulfilled. So, LP Moon’s body was gold.

3.    LP Thong Thao, Wat Kow Oor, Phatthalung Province

LP Thong Thao (also Phor Than Thong, popularly as Phor Than Kow Oor) was a past abbot of Wat Kow Oor in Phatthalung Province. LP Thong Thao was expert at magic and traditional Thai medicine.  LP Thong Thao had a tuft of hair on his head which couldn’t be cut. He was highly respected by Southern people.

Wat Kow Oor has been very famous for making excellent amulets for more than 120 years. Most of the believers regard that the amulets from Wat Kow Oor have strong protective power.

There was no proof when LP Thong Thao got ordained. But people told that before LP Thong Thao became a monk, he was very sick almost died.  So, LP Thong Thao promised the holy thing that if he could get over illness, he would get ordained. Soon, he got over, so he had to get ordained. After ordination, LP Thong Thao learnt superb magic from LP Eiad who was believed could fly.

LP Thong Thao’s mother got ordained as a nun at Wat Kow Oor by her son, LP Thong Thao.  LP Thong Thao provided the shelter for his mother near his shelter so that he could look after her mother conveniently.

LP Thong Thao passed away in 2470 B.E. (1927 C.E.) at age 78.  LP Thong Thao was a guru monk who consecrated amulets very holily. His famous amulets are various: magical knife (Meed Mor), Takrut,
