About Temple:
Wat Rakhang (full name: Wat Rakhangkositaram) is the important ancient temple in Bangkok. It is situated on the Thonburi side, opposite Tha Chang Wang Luang Pier. Wat Rakhang was built during the Ayutthaya Period. This temple is famous for Somdej Toh, the great timeless monk of Thailand who was an original Phra Somdej creator and a former abbot here.
About Somdej Toh:
Somdej Toh is a timeless monk of Thailand and the first person who created Phra Somdej. He was a former abbot of Wat Rakhang, Bangkok. He was born in the reign of King Rama I (early Rattanagosin period) on Thursday the 17th April BE 2331 (CE 1788). He got ordained as a novice in BE 2343 (CE 1800). He got ordained as a monk in BE 2350 (CE 1807). In BE 2407 (CE 1864), he was given a rank as “Somdej Toh” (the word “Somdej” for a monk is a high position). Somdej Toh passed away on Saturday the 22nd June BE 2415 (CE 1872) at age 85.
