History of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan:
Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan is located in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. This is a royal temple of the first class. Formerly named Wat Phra Borom That, this is one of the most important historical sites in southern Thailand and in all of Thailand. According to the legend of Phra Borom That Nakhon Si Thammarat, Prince Thanakuman and Queen Hem Chala brought Buddha relics to Hat Sai Kaeo and built a small pagoda to mark the location. Later on, King Si-Thamma Sokarat established the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and built a new pagoda. The present pagoda has a distinctive Sri Lankan style, measuring 55.78 metres high (measured by the Fine Arts Department during the renovation of the gold top in 1995). The height from the lotus base to the gold top is 6.80 metres. The top is entirely covered by pure gold. Inside the temple are many buildings of importance, especially the royal building which has beautiful architecture from the Ayutthaya period and the Sam Chom building where the Buddha image attired in royal wardrobe, Phra Si Thamma Sokarat, is housed. There is also the Phra Maha Phinetkrom (the equestrian image) building and the Thap Kaset building, while the Khian and Pho Lanka buildings are used to display artifacts that were donated to the temple by Buddhists.
Luang Pu Thuad, born B.E. 2125 (C.E. 1582), died B.E. 2225 (C.E. 1682) is a revered Buddhist monk who lived in Siam. He is said to have performed miracles. Luang Pu Thuad is mentioned in the early regional histories of southern Thailand, but his life is mainly preserved in oral. His movements throughout the Southern peninsula constitute a path of pilgrimage for many of his followers. Many people in Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia believe that amulets created in Luang Pu Thuat's image hold great protective powers granting safety in times of distress, especially saving the lives of believers from seemingly fatal automobile accidents. Phra Archan Tim Dharmataro, abbot of Wat Chang Hai is the pioneer creator of Phra Luang Phor Thuad amulets. Old sacred amulets of Pu Thuad are considered priceless and very powerful.
About LP Klai, monk who had holy words:
LP Klai or Portan Klai is the timeless guru monk. He was born in B.E. 2419 (C.E. 1876) and passed away in B.E. 2513 (C.E. 1970) at age 94. King Bhumibol once went to pay respect to him. LP Klai was said to have holy words because what he said would come true for example whoever LP Klai said would rich, they would rich like that. There was once big fire in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Everything was damaged but LP Klai’s serviettes used to wipe out liquid areca nut stain on his mouth. People was so amazed and rushed to get them to worship. Wonderfully, whoever had LP Klai’s serviette, their houses were not damaged by fire. One wonder that appeared after death of LP Klai was that his body does not decay. Today, body of LP Klai is well kept in the clear coffin at Wat Phrathat Noi, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
