Buddha images were created since Sukhothai period that was about 500 years ago. The Buddha images are very popular in Rattanakosin period about King Rama IV

 

1. Buddha image in “Pang Song Phra Subin” (dream posture)

The legend of this Buddha image happened after Lord Buddha decided to cancel self-mortification because he see this way in not right to get enlighten. Therefore, Lord Buddha decided to choose moderate practice that in once day Lord Buddha dreamed he found out the five auspiciousness that he thought the moderate practice can make he enlighten.

The feature:

Buddha image in “Pang Song Phra Subin” or dream posture is in sleeping posture that left hand on the body and right hand pillows in his head. Moreover, the head of Lord Buddha on the pillow and the eyes close.

 

2. Buddha image in “Pang Rab Utangka” (receiving water posture)

The legend of this Buddha image happened after Lord Buddha ate the food from Chuntha that made Lord Buddha was serious illness while going to Kusinara city but while going Lord Buddha felt exhausted and told “Phra Arnont” to bring the water for drinking. But the water was muddy because many carts had crossed the river. However, when the water was scooped from the river, it became clear and enabled the Lord Buddha to take it.

The feature:

Buddha image in “Pang Rab Utangka” or receiving water posture is in sitting posture that left hand place on the lap and right hand hold a monk bowl.

 

3. Buddha image in “Pang Song Cheworn” (wearing a monk robe posture)

The legend of this Buddha image happened in a winter time that the temperature was very cold. The Lord Buddha stayed at Wesali city that was very cold too. Therefore, the Lord Buddha decided to wear the robe more 1 piece but it could not stop cold then Lord Buddha wore 3 pieces of robe that was better. Then, Lord Buddha allowed using 3 pieces of robe in winter that call “Tri monk robe”.

The feature:

Buddha image in “Pang Song Cheworn” or wearing a monk robe posture is in sitting posture that the left hand raise in chest level and right hand catch a robe.

 

 

4. Buddha image in “Pang Payaban Phisu Aphak” (Taking Care of a Sick Monk Posture)

The legend of this Buddha image happened while Lord Buddha going to check the monk’s residences with Phra Anon. The Lord Buddha saw a monk who was ill that there was nobody helped him. Therefore, Lord Buddha helped the ill monk with Phra Anon with kindness. After that, Lord Buddha called the monks to meet and taught every monk should take care for each other.

The feature:

Buddha image in “Pang Payaban Phisu Aphak” or taking care of a sick monk posture is in squat posture by there is sick monk lay on Lord Buddha knee.

 

5. Buddha image in “Pang Kho Fon” (calling for rain posture)

The legend of this Buddha image happened while Lord Buddha lived in Wat Chetavan in Sawatthi city. Sawatthi city encountered with drought that made people and animal in city were trouble. Therefore, Lord Buddha prayed for the rain that there was rain around the city, it made the people and animal to be happy.

The feature:

Buddha image in “Pang Kho Fon” or calling for rain posture is in sitting posture that right palm beckon and left palm place on left knee.
