History of Phra Somdej
Somdej Phra Phutdhacharn (Toh), Wat RaKhang, made and blessed top famous Somdej Wat RaKhang between B.E.2400-2413.
LP Toh Promarungsri is a venerable person in Buddhism. LP Toh was born in 1776 at North of Thailand. From the age of seven years old, he became novice and stayed with LP Dang of at Wat GetChaiYo, Ang Thong province. At the age of ten, he went to Bangkok for studying knowledge of Dhamma. He was as a monk at Wat Ta Krai in Pissanulok province. During the era of King Rama V, he was an abbot of Wat Rakhang. LP Toh performed many miracles and dedicated his life for spreading Buddhism. He is one of top 10 guru monks of Thailand. He was the first monk who created style of Phra Somdej in Thailand and popular for his knowledge in both holy Dharma and Visha (magic). LP Toh has passed away at the age of 84 year old in 1872.

- To be more understand in Phra Som dej, collector should have a chance to see authentic one so as to compare it with other Phra Somdej to spot the differences.
- Look at the texture and the substance of Phra Somdej Wat Rakhang. Examine the composite of the substance which has been molded out off burnt limestone and then mixed with Chinese Tung oil and holy matters such as Med Chad, Med Phradhati, Holy dried Flower, Dried Stream Rice etc. Phra Somdej has to show this substance of the matters. Some textures are rough and some are fine grains.

1. Phim Yai / Phim Pratan (Big Mold)
Phim Yai is the most popular among all 4 Phims of Phra Somdej because of the most beautiful, perfect structure and suitable quantity. Thus, this Phim becomes the top of total Phra Somdej.

There are many textures of Phim Yai such as powder, rough, Chinese Tung Oil, egg custard and limestone.
Phra Somdej Wat Ra Khang, Phim Yai, can separate into 3 big types as to shape of the amulet. Anyway, shape of each phim is unique.
1. There is a thick torso. Phra Somdej’s face is big and round. (Someone calls thick-waisted and big face)
2. There is a thick torso. Phra Somdej’s face is tapering and swell. The middle of face is longer than the first phim. This face calls “big bale-fruit”. (Someone calls thick-waisted and medium face)
3. There is a thin torso. Phra Somdej’s is smallest. This face calls “small bale-fruit”. (Someone calls thin-waisted and small face)
However, phim of Phra Somdej is handmade. Each one has its own unique. There is no one exactly the same. Thus, there is a bit different looks and shape.
2. Phim Song Chedi
Phra Somdej Wat Ra Khang, Phim Song Chedi has the thickest torso body compare to other Phim. From head to the lowest base is similar to Chedi (pagoda).
Phra Somdej Wat Ra Khang, Phim Song Chedi can separate into 2 big structures. Anyway, shape of this Phim is specification.

2.1 Big Chedi Phra Somdej’s face swells nearby round. The side face has ear line. There is perfect, muscular torso, thick-waisted, and narrow hand that close to the body.
2.2 Small Chedi General of feature is thinner than big Chedi. The face is tapering and at the end of hair is short. There is thick cylinder shape torso, a little concave waist, big muscle arm and narrow hand.
Phra Somdej phim big Chedi (Chedi-Yai) is more popular than phim small Chedi (Chedi-Lek). However, if both are equally perfection, Phim small Chedi is more popular than phim big Chedi.
3. Phim Dhansam
The reason of calling phim Dhansam is that there is a line under the base, on the top and middle of Phra Somdej.
Phra Somdej Wat Ra Khang, Phim Dhansam can separate into 3 big structures. Anyway, shape of this phim is specification.

- Phra Somdej’s face swells and big. Also, there is a thick torso.
- Phra Somdej’s face swells and smaller than the first one. The torso is small. There is a clearly waist line. Also, there is a neck line.
- Phra Somdej’s face is the most tapering. The ear line is clearly. Also, there is slender-waist.
4. Phim KesBuaToom
Phim KesBuaToom is the second popular from Phim Yai. There is similar to Phim Song Chedi. However, there is a bit different sturdy from Phim Song Chedi. With this reason, phim KesBuaToom is more popular than Phim Song Chedi.

Phra Somdej Wat Ra Kang, Phim KesBuaToom can separate into 2 big structures. Anyway, shape of each phim is specification.
1. Big KesBuaToom There is a thick torso. Some almost is cylinder. Phra Somdej’s face is big and round. Also, there is a muscle arm.
2. Small KesBuaToom There is a slender-waist. Phra Somdej’s face is almost trapezoid and small arm.
The prominence of this phim is clearly SangKaTi line. Also, this line pass over body. Reason to call this Phra Phim that "Kes Bua Toom" is from shape of the face.
The forehead is wide and the chin is thin. There is a small roll hair on the top which is like lotus but in upside shape. The importance aspect is long ears reaching shoulder.
5. Phim ProkBodhi
The character of this Phim is that Buddha sits cross-legged surrounding with Bodhi tree. Bodhi tree is refered as a tree that Buddha sits when he has enlightened thousand years ago. This phim is very rare to find. Thus, there is a little information.
