| | PDMAB3067 Good Collection Rare 2505 B.E. King Bhumibol Token for Hill Tribe
Material: silver
Size: 3 cm diameter
From: Bureau of the Royal Household
Origin: Thailand
Year: 2505 B.E. (1962 C.E.)
This
is a token from King Bhumibol to hill tribes used as an ID card because
hill tribes had no ID cards in the past. The back of the medal has a
picture of Thailand with a serial number and a provincial abbreviation.
In
the past, the North of Thailand had problems about drags and mobile
plantation of hill tribes. With a far point of view, King Bhumibol went
to see the hill tribes and taught them to plant cold weather plants
instead of opium. So far, there is no longer opium and hill tribes have
better life than before.
And every time when the king went to
see hill tribes, he took the medals and gave out people who had no ID
cards. That is wise strategy of the king to help hill tribes recorded by
using the medal because immigration of hill tribes happened often and
making ID cards for them was difficult. So that way was easier to help
hill tribes recorded as Thai citizens.
